Results from Aug. 5-26th 2012

Sorry for missing last couple week's results recap. Theirs been very few races of late, and I don't have the attention span to get exctited about all three sports in a triathlon.

To sum up August so far, Marauders are winning. Jordan Bierema crushed some local competition in a 5k. Andrew Yorke has been tearing it up post Olympics. He won Swedish Nationals, and then bounced back after a flat tire in the Stockholm individual race to lead the Canadian team. Blair Morgan and Austen Forbes were 16th and 18th at the Canadian Junior triathlon championships. Wrapping things up was Victoria Coates winning Dundas Cactus 5k.

McMaster Track Update - Field Done, Mondo going down

Pete Self was out again today taking pictures of the new track. The field is done and looking great, and the mondo is starting to go down on the homestretch. The anticipation is almost too much!

McMaster Track Update

Assistant Coach Pete Self took pictures of the progress of the new McMaster Outdoor track yesterday. Here are his notes:

Mondo was delivered yesterday and they are to start laying it this weekend. The lines are scheduled to be painted the week of the 17th and the track ready for action after that.

Recruits Already Bringing Home Hardware

Cross Country recruits Madeline McDonald and Kaitlyn Pansegrau were honoured by OFSAA with the Brian Maxwell scholarship.

Big triathlon weekend with Ontario Champs. Andrew Bysice and Austen Forbes are crowned provincial champions with strong races from David Hopton and Taylor Forbes, as well as a nice double from Blair Morgan.

While the world focuses on on London, a large number of Canadian University athletes have one eye on London, and another eye on London. As of today, August 2, we are 100 days out from CIS Cross Country Championships in London Ontario. Excitement is building as runners begin their base training. The UVic boys are excited to training hard in preparation for the big dance in the Forest City.

Some Random Thoughts about CIS Champs:
- On the Men's and Women's side it's shaping up to be once agian, the most comptetive CIS competition ever.
- We are14 weeks from CIS Champs, 5 Weeks from Time Trial, 7 Weeks from Western International
- It's never too early to grow facial hair in CIS preperation
- Last time Western hosted CIS XC Marauder Women were dead last, and the Men were 3rd last.
- This is the 50th CIS Championship on the Men's side (33rd Women's)

Some Random Thoughts about OUA Champs:
- They happen before CIS
- 50 years ago, the McMaster Men won their first OUA title.
- OUA's this year also marks the 100th anniversary of the contest for the H.R Little Cup (OUA competition first began in 1901 but the cup was first awarded in 1912)
- Not counting the years the OUA competition was skipped due to World Wars, this is the 102nd year of the OUA Championship
