Race Recap: Triple Threat Junior Elite Triathlon

The first triathlon in the Canadian Junior Elite series took place last Sunday June 9th at Bird's Hill Park, just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Marauders were well represented with 4 athletes competing, as well as 2 athletes who will be attending McMaster in the fall. Leading the way was Blair Morgan, who finished in 6th, with the 4th fastest run split. Following closely behind were fellow Marauders Austen Forbes in 7th, with a strong showing while still recovering from pneumonia, and Rui Xu in 8th after catching the pack with the 2nd fastest bike split. Both athletes finished strong with run splits under 16:30. After some issues in transition 1 with his bike shoes, Connor Darlington came off the bike with a vengeance, and ran his way to a 15th place finish with the fastest run of the day, 15:18. Soon-to-be Marauders Reid Burrows from New Brunswick and Patrick Daley from Peterborough finished 10th and 12th respectively. Based on these results, both Blair and Austen have unofficially earned spots to represent Team Ontario in the 2013 Canada Summer Games in August. The official team should be announced on Friday June 21st.

2013-2014 (Men) Marauder Recruits

This year’s Men’s team will be joined by some equally speedy recruits as the Women’s. Expect to see more great results like these:

Nick Kondrat of Hammarskjold H.S. in Thunder Bay ran an awesome 1500m and 3000m double at OFSAA this year. He set new PBs in both races, with 3:56.42 (10th place in the 1500m) and 8:40.56 (11th place in the 3000m).

At the West Regionals, Paul Rochus of East Elgin S.S. placed 12th in a very competative Senior Mens 3000m with a time 9:10.41.  The top 3 men in this race went on to be the top 3 at OFSAA, proving the depth of this West Regionals field.

Patrick Deane also competed at the West Regionals, representing Lord Dorchester S.S. He ran 4:09.09 in the 1500m, placing 8th.   Again, this was a fast field of competitors, as the top two men here placed among the top 5 at OFSAA.

Congratulations, we’re excited to watch you compete for McMaster in the fall!

2013-2014 (Lady) Marauder Recruits

Next year the Mac teams will be welcoming some accomplished recruits to the roster. Here’s a look at some of their great results from this weekend:

In the OFSAA 1500m Steeplechase, Emily Nowak of St. Joan of Arc in Mississauga finished 5th in 5:04.32, a mere 5 seconds from the podium.
Adrienne Morgan (sister of current member Blair Morgan) from Ernestown S.S. finished 18th in the very fast field of the OFSAA Senior Girls 3000m. Her time was 10:36.75.
Due to a hamstring injury, unfortunately Phoebe Cseresnyes of Westadale S.S. was unable to compete in her final T&F OFSAA. However she posted some quick times in the South Regional Meet, 4:45.75 in the 1500m, behind the winner in 4:45.35. She also ran 10:41.79 to win the SOSSA Championships earlier this season.
Kierstin Myers will be joining the Marauders from Western University while she studies Physiotherapy. Last night at the Trackie Mania Meet in London, she started the season with 10:23.53 in the 3000m.

Looking forward to seeing these runners in Maroon and Grey next year!
