Update: Added pictures curtsey of Steph MacNeill
Reminiscing
Many great races and events have been on the old track, and I'd like to take a minute to remember them. Personally, I'll remember the fighting through solo workouts in the summer heat, and running laps at 4am with great friends for Relay for Life.

But if we had to pick a video that the Mac track would be remembered for, we're going to have to pick this one. If you haven't seen this yet it's an absolute must see. Greg Anderson from Dundas Parkside runs 8:00.2 to win the Ofsaa 3000m in 1987. It is still the Ofsaa record 25 tears later. Greg's final 800m was 2:00, and final 1500m was 3:55. This was a North American record for 22 years until German Hernandez from California bested it in 2009. An intent observer can even see Guy Shultz (assistant coach at Western for both cross and track) finishing third in 8:31.70.
We'll miss you Mac track.

That is probably the best age related performance on the old track.... Remember he ran 2 1500m races the day before this as well. One in which he fell losing 30m and sprinted to catch back up.... Greg was a special talent.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant content! Excellent execution. I'm sure it turned out to be everything the homeowner thought it would be.
